Come and visit us for EU Open House!

 

EU Open House is a day dedicated to the discovery of the European Union (EU) member countries’ chanceries around Washington, DC. It is a day in which we celebrate Europe Day by opening the doors of EU Member States’ chanceries to the public so that Americans can catch a glimpse of the European cultures that make up the European Union (EU).

This event falls every year on the first Saturday after Europe Day (May 9). This date marks the signing of the Schuman Declaration on May 9, 1950, which established the European Coal and Steel Community, a multinational entity that would eventually become the European Union as we know it today.

Normally you have to cross the Atlantic to visit the EU, but at Open House, you just have to cross the street!

 

At EU Open House, you will be able to experience “Bearing Witness“, a photo exhibition focused on providing a snapshot of forty years of conflicts around the world covered from the front-lines. The exhibition is co-organized with the Embassy of Italy and it presents 40 pictures starting from Lebanon in 1982 across Africa’s post-colonialism through the crossroads of Asia to the Middle East and back to Europe with the conflicts in the Balkans and Ukraine, taken by Fausto Biloslavo, a veteran war reporter, and some by Francesco Semprini, a war correspondent who covers the United States and the United Nations.
