online > Drawing Stories, the evolution of Italian Language in Comics

settimana lingua

20th Annual Week of Italian Language in the World

Under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic

Drawing Stories, the evolution of Italian Language in Comics is the digital exhibition organized by the Cultural Institutes of Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC and Toronto, in collaboration with Romics, International Comics, Animation, Cinema and Game Festival. Opening on October 19th, 2020, the exhibition is part of the 20th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The display focuses on the evolution of language in comics, from the great masters to emerging authors. A virtual journey to discover the profound changes, particularly in narrative terms, that the “ninth art” has experienced in recent years, starting with the role of the screenwriter. The exhibition will include the works of Tito Faraci (writer, screenwriter for Disney, Astorina, Sergio Bonelli Editore, and editorial curator for Feltrinelli Comics) as well as 30 tables by authors from the most important Italian publishing houses, including Giorgio Cavazzano, Silvia Ziche, Bruno Brindisi, Marco Gervasio, Enrique Breccia, Ivo Milazzo, Giuseppe Palumbo, Sio, Francesco Ripoli and Lorenzo Pastrovicchio.

The Virtual Exhibition will be accompanied by a series of webinars focusing on themes such as the most iconic characters from Italian and international comics; the innovative and international impact of Disney Italia comic production; graphic novels, their narrative impact, the introduction of new narrative languages and rhythms; and a journey behind the scenes of comic books, featuring Diabolik as the protagonist of a dialogue on how comics achieve the alchemy between history and image.

Tito Faraci, Alex Bertani, Barbara Baldi, Sergio Brancato, Igort, Mario Gomboli, Giuseppe Palumbo and other Italian authors will take part in the presentations. A calendar of the webinars will be uploaded shortly.

Available from October 19 to November 15, 2020
