ABOUT THE SHOW
Pinocchio. The story of a puppet is a performance that combines literature, theatre, dance and music, and aims at giving a special take on the most celebrated Italian “piece of wood”.
Pinocchio, often seen only as a tale for children, is also a narration about Italy’s struggles for independence. The author, Carlo Lorenzini, aka Collodi, was a patriot, deeply committed to the unification of his country, and with this book he wanted to provide food for thought and not only light entertainment.
This show aims at bringing Collodi’s work back to its “tragic” nature, taking the audience into a journey through a selection of the most significant chapters (1-4, 11, 16-17,35-36).
Pinocchio. The story of a puppet is inspired to Benedetto Croce’s remarks: “it is a tale for adults, centered on the tragic key character of Geppetto, it is a story where the whole humanity is inscribed in a piece of wood, a narrative of the relationships between freedom and obedience, between fathers and sons”.
Michela Lucenti’s choreography aptly matches Massimiliano Finazzer Flory’s interpretation to flesh out such fantastic figures as Mister Geppetto, the Talking Cricket, the Fairy with Turquoise Hair, Fire Eater, the Fox and the Cat…..
The soundtrack includes music by Nino Rota, as a tribute to Federico Fellini’s dreamy world, and Fiorenzo Carpi, who provided the music scores to Luigi Comencini’s Pinocchio movie in 1972.
Both the original project for the show and the tour were conceived under the auspices of Fondazione Nazionale Carlo Collodi and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
