OPERA POP

Operapop (Francesca Carli, soprano, and Enrico Giovagnoli, tenor) merge the language of pop music with their experience of opera in a fusion of great vocal skill and stage presence that leads to a spectacular performance. They met at Conservatorio G. Rossini in Pesaro, where they qualified in 2005 with top marks, followed shortly thereafter by their theatre debut, singing in operas such as “Rigoletto”, “La Traviata” by G. Verdi, “Turandot” by G. Puccini, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “Rita”, “Il Campanello”, Donizetti, “La Sonnabula” by V. Bellini, Lla Cambiale di Matrimonio” by G.Rossini, “La Serva Padrona” by G.B.Pergolesi and others.

While travelling from city to city, Enrico and Francesca came up with the idea of establishing their duo, Operapop. In 2006, at a turning point in their musical career, they were fortunate enough to study for an intense period under the greatest tenor of all times, Luciano Pavarotti, who encouraged and motivated them to pursue their ambitious project, leaving them with an indelible mark of his unique teachings.

Operapop’s debut before the public at large came in 2009, when they won the television competition “I Raccomandati” transmitted on RAI 1 Italian National television, backed by the most famous Italian rock and roll artist, Little Tony. This was followed by invitations to appear on other RAI 1 programmes “Festa Italiana, “La vita in diretta” and “Mettiamoci all’opera”. These performances were soon followed by success abroad; in Washington D.C. for the important journalism award “Press Award”, in Libya, at the renewal of the peace accords between Italy and Libya appearing on national Libyan television Al Jazeera, as representatives of Italian music in Beijing (China) and as special guests at the “Avalon Theater” at Niagara Falls (Ontario-Canada).

In 2010 they were guests of the National Television programme “Festival” on Sky Gold TV. That same year saw them perform, to great acclaim, in widespread destinations such as Cancun (Mexico) for WBC in front of the great boxing champions of the world, in Mexico City, where they were also guests on the programme “El debate: Pensar Mexico” on national Mexican television TVAzteca, and again in China.

They also performed on the programmes “La nave di Capodanno” during the live transmission on New Years’ Eve in Naples on RAI1 and RAI International and then on “Domenica In”, “Di che talento sei” ed “E state con noi in Tv” on RAI1 and “I Fatti vostri” on RAI2. In 2011 they featured as special guests on Little Tony’s new album “È Impossibile (It’s Impossible)” where they sing a duet, the well known Neapolitan song, “Torna a Surriento”. They then returned to perform in the USA (Beverly Hills – California), in Mexico (Mexico City and Texcoco), in Cina (Dalian), in Sud America (Uruguay and Argentina) and in the RAI1 TV programme “I Raccomandati”, where they are the only previous winners of the programme to participate as guests.

In acknowledgement of a year of hard work, in July 2011 they won the national “I Marchigiani dell’Anno” (Marchigiani of the Year) Award ,a prize that emphasizes their talent and hard work in the artistic field, confirmed a short while later when they returned to Canada (Casino Rama in Toronto), where they also appeared on the Canadian Television Network CHIN TV. An inspiring example of quality, professionalism and emotion: this is Operapop.
