Irene Jalenti New Island Project

“It’s rare to find an Italian singer who is able to convey with such strength and intensity” with these words All About Jazz has described the jazz vocalist Irene Jalenti. In 2010 she moved from Italy to the United States to perfect her musicianship at Peabody Conservatory of Music where she studied with jazz legends Jay Clayton and Gary Thomas. Irene is getting her Master Degree in Jazz Performance at Howard University where she is also a member of the multi-awarded a cappella jazz ensemble Afro Blue. Her deep tone has been compared to icons such as Nina Simone, Cassandra Wilson, and Betty Carter. Her phrasing takes the listener back to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae, but all of this elements are fused with a modern and fresh approach supported by original songs and arrangements that make the performance unique.

“Her warmth and strong stage presence allow her to communicate the essence, power and importance of jazz” (Bob Cranshaw – bassist)

“She adds and extraordinary, heartbreaking sheen to the instruments – an inspiring touch” (Bob Doerschuk – Downbeat)
