Three Boccaccio-style stories, a vivid narrative and a careful mise en scene. This is a brilliant comedy on the themes of labor and temporary employment, sustained by two ex-“Rotten Horses,” Alessandro Bianchi e Michelangelo Pulci. The actors Briguglia, Frassica, Pannofino and Grimaudo deliver a high-quality performance. Maddalena De Panfilis | Italy 2009 | 90 min. | ( trailer ) | tickets
The film includes a fun cameo with Stefano Benni. The story unfolds over 24 hours and consists of major life changes: Anna (Violante Placido) must leave home after one year; Olga (Valentina Cervi), who lives with her hare-brained mother (Sandra Milo), must pay off a debt and go to Bergamo, where she is supposed to get married. OPENING SHORTS – MAY 20th @ 7PM ( EMBASSY OF ITALY )
FRATELLI SEMAFORO (The Traffic Light Brothers)
Simone Salvemini | Italy 2003 | 8:35 min.
This film is based on the true story of Victor and Arben, two Albanian brothers who landed in Brindisi in 1991, at the time of a massive emigration. They get accidentally involved in a fight among car drivers and assume the role of traffic cops in the midst of a concert of blowing horns. They succeed in directing traffic with impeccable precision, like professionals. The brothers are therefore able to stay in Italy permanently, in their role of human traffic lights.
LA MOGLIE (The Wife)
Andrea Zaccariello | Italy 2006 | 22 min.
A married couple, Valerio (Enrico Silvestrini) and Simona (Valeria Solarino), decides to spend their wedding anniversary in a little beach house, isolated and romantic, to be alone for two days and try to restore their relationship. They talk, debate, fight, and sleep, but they do not make love. Between them there is tension, misunderstanding and boredom. The couple plays a game of pretension and complicity that gives reality a more intriguing dimension. This game involves also the viewer, with the use of telling clues. The strength of the film is that it does not reveal the secret until the very end.
This film was awarded the SIAE Prize for best script at the XIV Festival “La Cittadella del Corto.”
NUVOLE, MANI (Clouds, Hands)
Simone Massi | Italy, France 2009 | 8 min.
This is the story of a boy and a dog, of time passing by, of our incapacity to see everyday ordinary things, and of the enchantment we feel when we do notice those things.
This short was judged “Best Italian Film” at the XXI Fano Film Festival.
