The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute present Massimo Caiazzo in a lecture about the chromatic heritage and the color of Italian lifestyle.
Colors in the “built environment” are one of the most fascinating expressions of collective intelligence. Colors evoke emotions and cause unconscious reactions, have subjective and collective meanings therefore they contribute to set up an authentic “emotional landscape”. Nowadays it is necessary to develop a new awareness of our “doing landscape” in the full respect of human sensibility distinctiveness and assortment.
If color plays such an essential role in the cities scenery it must be said that this priceless endowment is unfortunately in danger as it happened in the last two centuries that have seen a radical transformation of our chromatic habitat. The urban environment is endangering the urban quality of life both on a physical and a psychological level, so color has been reduced to an optional element and it has been depleted of its social value.
Design color culture is a precious resource to redevelop and to enhance the built environment aimed to improve the quality of life because color is not only an aesthetical sensation it influences our perception of temperature, taste, smell, sound, volume, weight and passing time.
“The aware use of color and light is an index for the quality of life and an expression of harmony.”
