Irene is a high-class hotel critic in her mid-40s who travels to the most exclusive resorts. She spends her time writing up elaborately detailed reports about the things the staff is doing wrong. Whether timing the room service, taking the temperature of white wine or inspecting dust levels with lint gloves, her voyages are far from relaxing, while her home life is pretty much nonexistent — except for a longstanding friendship with handsome organic food purveyor Andrea.

Maria Sole Tognazzi was born in Rome in 1971. The daughter of actor and director Ugo Tognazzi and actress Franca Bettoia. She has a brother, actor Gianmarco Tognazzi , and two half-brothers, actor and director Ricky Tognazzi and Norwegian film director and film producer, Thomas Robsham. She makes her directorial debut with the 1997 live action short film Non finisce qui, followed by two more short films, C’ero anch’io (1999) and Sempre a tempo (2000). Her first feature-length film was Passato prossimo (Past Perfect, 2003), co-written with Daniele Prato, was awarded the 2003 Nastro d’Argento for Best New Director. The movie was also entered into the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. In 2010, her documentary Ritratto di mio padre (Portrait of My Father) was screened at the Rome Film Festival . Her third feature film, Viaggio Sola (A Five Star Life, 2013), starring Margherita Buy, was written with Ivan Cotroneo and Francesca Marciano.
