The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington is glad to announce the presentation of “String virtuosi in Eighteenth-Century Naples: Culture, Power, and Music Institutions” (Cambridge University Press, 2024) written by Guido Olivieri, Professor of Musicology at the University of Texas – Austin, and the accompanying concert by Modern Music (Risa Browder at the violin, John Moran at the baroque cello, and Dongsok Shin at the harpsichord).
The book presentation and concert will be held on October 10, 2024, at Dahlgren Chapel, at Georgetown university, in Washington, DC. Serafina Hager (Director of the Italian Research Center at Georgetown University) will introduce a conversation led by Anthony R. DelDonna (Thomas E. The evening will end with a concert performed by the period instrument ensemble Modern Musick who will propose a selection of works recovered by Prof. Olivieri and featured in his monograph.
Join us to learn more about the significant contributions of Neapolitan musicians to the development of string repertoire in early modern Europe, specifically around the late 17th and early 18th centuries, a time when Naples was the second largest metropolis on the European continent.
