The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which occurs on January 27, is the universal commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly on November 1, 2005.
January 27 is the date, in 1945, when the largest Nazi death camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau (Poland) was liberated by Soviet troops.
To commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2012, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Washington, in cooperation with Georgetown University and DC Jewish Community Center, will be hosting two lectures on January 25th and January 26th.
