ABOUT THE BOOK
«In Italy few understand the importance that Taiwan has in the clash between the United States and China for the leadership of the 21st century. Yet this island, slightly larger than Sicily, with just twenty-three million inhabitants, which produces the most advanced microchips in the world and is surrounded by waters where thousands of billions of dollars of goods pass through each year, could, in spite of itself, trigger the spark of Third World War: the perfect storm has its eye of the storm here.”
Commercial tensions and spite, threats in the press, attempts at new alliances underway on the international scene. The winds of war have been stirring for many months now, the conflict in Ukraine is only a plastic but peripheral manifestation of it.
Are we heading towards an escalation on a planetary scale?
Who will rule the world in the coming years?
Will the 21st century still be an American century?
Does the United States, despite the political, economic and cultural divisions that seem to condemn it to decline, still have the strength to counter the onslaught of autocratic regimes, committed to undermining the international order that emerged from the Second World War and reshaping it in their favor?
Through stories experienced and told firsthand, Claudio Pagliara, one of the best-known faces of television journalism, leads us to discover what is happening to American politics under the Biden presidency and to the Chinese policy of the “helmsman” Xi Jinping.
