EuroAsia Shorts

Monday, June 9 – Friday, June 13

The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington is happy to announce the return of EuroAsia Shorts (EAS), a festival dedicated to international short films, in the heart of Washington D.C.

This year, EAS events take place throughout a single week, with five screening events Monday-Friday.

The events will feature international shorts from the following countries: Austria, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Oman, South Korea, and Spain.

During the first four evenings paired countries will present their short films designed as a conversation on this year’s central theme, Beyond Limits. Like joy, growth, and change, obstacles are a natural and universal part of life. But it is how we face them—or overcome them—that reveals our true character, values, and shared humanity. Hardships both great and small demands we respond with perseverance, courage, and resilience. Other challenges call for profound resistance and strength when we are pushed beyond our limits or into conflict. The many trials we face in life—as individuals, nations, and humanity as a whole—ultimately require us to look beyond the moment to preserve hope and seek justice, even in the face of insurmountable odds. What would we be were it not for the struggles that fortify and define us?

The traditional closing night will take place at the Embassy of Austria on Friday June 13, when short films from all nine current partner countries will be featured.

The screenings will be made available for free to the public.

To join us for any of the events organized, a registration is required.

Please note that registration for closing night on June 13, 2025, is separate and will open on June 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, on eventbrite here:

About the Festival

Now in its 19th year (2025), EuroAsia Shorts (originally the Asian-European Short Film Showcase) remains a collaboration between a small group of Washington, D.C. embassies and cultural centers. Since 2006, the festival has presented more than 300 short films, including many award-winning shorts making their U.S. debut. Each year a broad variety of films and styles are presented, connected by a single theme. With post-film cultural Q&A’s and discussions with experts each night, EuroAsia Shorts offers an international cinematic dialogue that is uniquely Washingtonian.

The 2025 festival represents 9 countries. Check out the links below for more on each partner organization and our many cultural programs beyond EAS.
