– Tasso, Monteverdi and the Arts

Lecturers Laura Benedetti and Peter Lukehart will present Torquato Tasso’s poem Jerusalem Delivered and the works of art it inspired. The National Gallery of Art Vocal Ensemble with Rosa Lamoreaux, artistic director, soprano and the National Gallery of Art Chamber Players will perform the Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by Claudio Monteverdi.

– Verdi Our Contemporary

Concert by Ensemble Nuove Musiche. Seven composers coming from different parts of Italy have selected many lyrics of the Master of Busseto and re-arranged them according to their own taste and aesthetics. The program also includes the performance of some of Verdi’s original works.

Ezio Mattiace and Claudio Silvestrin will explore some of the paths followed by Italian designers, trying to figure out how they succeeded in gaining a leading role on the world scene.

CINEMA, ART – Aesthetics and Ideology in Painting and Cinema

In the film The Ghosts of the Third Reich, Claudia Ehrlich Sobral and Tommaso Valente look at the way a few descendants of Nazi high officers have tried to come to terms with their family past. After the screening, Claudia E. Sobral and Ori Z. Soltes will discuss the artistic implications of choosing diverse mediums, such as painting and cinema.
