SHORTS SCREENING
The new Social World Film Festival in Vico Equense, Italy, is the place where social-oriented cinema from around the world is showcased every year.
This screening is a selection of 5 shorts, by Italian directors under 35 years of age, from last year’s Festival and will be introduced by the director and founder of the Festival, Giuseppe Alessio Nuzzo:
Intercambio – Antonello Novellino and Antonio Quintanilla(Spain/Italy, 2010, 15 min.)
In a quiet little farming town, life is governed by agriculture’s cycle. Suddenly, authorities confiscate everything that has been harvested.
Little by little, food is disappearing. The cruelty of hunger attacks the village. While soldiers close all exits, suspicion and terror become the reigning lords. How will the inhabitants manage to survive? This story, which takes place in an undetermined place and time, is inspired on real facts that transpired in Eastern Europe during the 30s.
Rec, Stop & Play – Emanuele Pisano(Italy, 2010, 12 min.)
The need to communicate in three stories that intertwine. An inmate woman is being wooed by a customer of the laundry where she works. A man takes care of his child in a vegetative state. Both events give a gardener an opportunity to develop a device that satisfies an innate and vital need of communication.
XIE ZI– Giuseppe Marco Albano(Italy, 2010, 11 min.)
A man and a child, coming from different cultures, meet by accident. Between fear and distrust, they both will find themselves bound by a “double knot”.
Il Torneo (The Tournament) -Michele Alharique(Italy, 2007, 15 min.)
In the suburbs of Rome in 2007, an outcast group of teenagers dreams of participating in a soccer tournament but they do not have enough money to buy the team uniforms.
Bando di Concorso (The Contest) – Giovanni Meola(Italy, 2010, 20 min.)
A very powerful boss wants to eliminate his most bitter rival, but to do so they decide to hold a “contest” between his rival and the best killer of his fierce clan. The contest will not be a shootout but reading a poem.
