Opera and the Built Environment
Opera and the Built Environment

The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington hosts the presentation of “Opera and the Built Environment” by Professor Laura Vasilyeva (Johns Hopkins University).

In conversation with Professor Anthony R. DelDonna (Georgetown University), Professor Vasilyeva explores the global proliferation of the classic Italian opera house design — the teatro all’italiana — and examines how its core architectural features became deliberately standardized during the nineteenth century.

From interior design to structural parameters, the discussion reveals the diverse considerations that drove this standardization and situates Italian opera within a broader global context.

The presentation will be held in English.

In collaboration with: Georgetown University Department of Italian Studies; Georgetown University Humanities Initiative.
