LAURA BOSETTI TONATTO
Since October 2006, Laura Bosetti Tonatto is a member of the academic staff of the University of Ferrara, Faculty of Pharmacy. She teaches the course “Perfumes: Art and Production” for the second level Master in Cosmetic Science and Technology, where she also created the course “Naso e Parnaso”, which analyzes the use of essences and aromas from Ancient times to the Third millennium.
She arranged several exhibitions, among which: “Caravaggio: a Painting, a Perfume” for the Hermitage State Museum of Saint Petersburg, Russia. For the National Museum of Eastern Art of Rome, Laura Bosetti Tonatto took care of the olfactory section of the exhibition “Aromatica: Essences, Perfumes and Spices, from East to West”, recreating, among several perfumes, the Syrian water of the first century BC and the water called Aqua Mirabilis (1609), which later became the famous Eau de Cologne by Giovanni Maria Farina. Laura Bosetti Tonatto also designed a custom made fragrance for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
On November 26, 2012, by decree of the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, she was awarded with the honor of Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito of the Republic of Italy.
Laura Bosetti Tonatto is the only expert in the field that was able to express the relationship of art, science and culture. Important art works have inspired her perfumes. Thanks to a long lasting work of analysis and study of artworks, she was able to recreate artistic suggestions into fragrances, which became masterpieces to be enjoyed through the most unusual of all senses: smell.
