streaming > Germination by Irene Dionisio

As the second US stop for Irene Dionisio‘s research, we are presenting a selection of works on the theme of “germination” as a generous and regenerative act of nature, and at the same time as a dramatic spread of a material and moral contagion.

The artist reflects on this theme through two works: the video “Germ Theory” (2020), produced by Castello di Rivoli, on digital trauma, and the film “Sponde” (Shore in the Safe North Sun) (2015), produced by a.titolo and Mammut Film, which tells the story of friendship between two gravediggers on opposite shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

Irene Dionisio (1986) is a filmmaker and artist. Her productions range from film to installations, sound works, video-installations and documentaries. Her films include “The Last Things” (2016), “Sponde” (2015) and “The Factory is Full” (2011), which have been presented in many international festivals (Venice Festival , Torino Film Festival, Visions du Réel, Taiwan Film Festival, among others). Her works have been shown in solo or group exhibitions at the Magazzino Italian Art, New York; Rivoli Castle, Turin; Pav, Turin; PAC, Milan; OCAT, Shanghai; Palazzo Grassi, Venice; Villa Arson, Nice among others. In 2020 she received the Bertolucci Award for artistic innovation.
