Oscar Winner Vittorio Storaro presents Il Conformista (The Conformist)

At AFI Silver

Screening of Bertolucci‘s Il Conformista followed by a lecture and a Q&A with three-time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, and a screening of clips from the main movies the famous Italian cinematographer has worked on.

Il Conformista is based on Alberto Moravia‘s novel by the same title. The desperate quest to belong undertaken by a bourgeois Italian during the fascism of the 1930s. Jean-Louis Trintignant portrays Marcello Clerici, a man fearful of his identity—both socially and sexually — whose maniacal obsession with normality leads him to fascist politics, an ill-fated marriage, a dangerous affair and the betrayal of a kindly mentor.
