Born in Sicily and adopted by Venice, Patrizia Laquidara is one of the most elusive, multifaceted, and brilliant singer-songwriter in the Italian music scene. Occasionally also actress and writer, Patrizia became “a cult figure”: her voice has been described “sometimes sweet and continuous, as well as raging and disruptive, with a stunning power to charm and bewitch”.
In this concert, Patrizia Laquidara dives into her repertoire, surrendering to the great poetry and playfulness of the tales and emotions residing in the Italian popular music storybook. Recounting its origins, emotional teachings, and the sublime chronicle of folk poetry, “Canzoni” is a journey into Italian music up to the early 2000s.
Starting with an homage to the first Italian songwriting and the Neapolitan song, Patrizia moves to the first edition of the Sanremo Festival and the songs from the 1950s, with Modugno’s revolutionary idea that Italians are ready to fly (“Volare”). Touching upon the poetic notes of Endrigo and Tenco, as well as the songwriting of De Andrè, Guccini, and Battisti, this special musical score takes us through history and teaches us a piece of Italy.
