Fellini Jazz – A tribute to the Cinema of Federico Fellini by Maestro Enrico Pieranunzi

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest in international art cinema, a master of memory, dreams, fantasy and desire: Federico Fellini. Our year-long celebration of his genius starts with this musical tribute by one of the greatest pianist of the Italian jazz scene: Enrico Pieranunzi.

For this debut in Washington DC of Fellini Jazz - before moving to New York - Maestro Pieranunzi will be joined on stage by Luca Bulgarelli (doublebass) and Mauro Beggio (drums). Come join us for an evening with a jazz twist revisiting the most memorable soundtracks of Fellini’s greatest movies, from I Vitelloni to La Strada, and Amarcord to La Dolce Vita.

Pianist, composer, arranger Enrico Pieranunzi has recorded more than seventy CDs under his own name, and in collaboration with great artists such as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron, Paul Motian, Chris Potter and Charlie Haden.

Due to new safety regulations, we are not allowed to add extra seats to the auditorium or let anyone stand. A registration is not a guarantee of a seat as these are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Doors close at event start-time.

ENRICO PIERANUNZI

Enrico Pieranunzi was born in Rome and has for many years been among the most significant and well-known protagonists of the international jazz scene. A pianist, composer, and arranger, he has recorded more than 70 albums under his own name, ranging from piano solo to trio, from duo to quintet.

He has collaborated, either live or in the studio, with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Chris Potter, Marc Johnson, and Joey Baron. Pieranunzi has been named Artist of the Year three times by the Musica Jazz magazine critics’ poll. He also won the French Django d’Or prize as “Best European Musician” and the German Echo Jazz Award as “Best International Keyboard Artist”.

Mr. Pieranunzi has performed all over the world in the most prestigious international festivals, from Montréal to Copenhagen and Buenos Aires, from Berlin and Madrid to Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing, from New York to San Francisco. He has also been regularly featured in the most important New York clubs, especially the Village Vanguard, where he recorded the album Live at the Village Vanguard with Marc Johnson and Paul Motian. This is the first album ever recorded by an Italian musician in the legendary diamond shaped 7th Avenue venue. Enrico Pieranunzi has composed over 300 pieces, many of which have become standards performed and recorded by musicians all over the world (Night Bird, Don’t Forget the Poet, Fellini’s Waltz).
