4th WEEK OF ITALIAN CUISINE IN THE WORLD

Join us on November 18th as we inaugurate the 4th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World with the opening of the exhibition “Queen: culture – traditions – taste”, a visual journey by World Press Award Winner photographer Antonio Gibotta curated by FIOF (International Fund for Photography).

As announced earlier this year by the US News and World Report, the Mediterranean diet ranked as the best diet in 2019. Already inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2013), it was later joined by a typical Italian culinary practice, the art of the Neapolitan “Pizzaiuolo” (2017).

This collection of images will guide us through the unique flavors of the Bel Paese and the ingredients that ordained the Mediterranean diet as the Queen of all diets, and pizza as its crown jewel.

The exhibit’s opening will be followed by a pizza tasting, kindly sponsored by
Marra Forni and Pizza University.

ANTONIO GIBOTTA

gibotta

Born in 1988, Antonio Gibotta develops a passion for photography at an early age, watching closely his father’s work, an accomplished photographer in his own right. His early work as a reportage photographer, both in Italy and especially abroad, allows Gibotta to translate this passion into a full-fledged profession, marked by a unique photographic identity built on a distinct personality.

Gibotta’s work centers on the individual and the personalized relevance of social issues, reinterprets the meaning of reportage photography and its innermost feelings: the rawness, the poetry, the purity, and the dreamy quality of his images invariably touch the human heart.

Recipient of a Master of Arts in Advertising Graphics and Photography, Gibotta goes on to obtain the QIP (Qualified Italian Photographer), and Master QIP certifications from the FIOF (Fondo Internazionale per la Fotografia), and the QEP (Qualified European Photographer), and Master QEP certifications from the FEP (Federation of European Photographers), which also presented him with the Golden Camera Award.

Other awards and acknowledgements include, in 2012, 2nd place at the prestigious Prix de la Photographie Paris competition (Press), 1st place at the L’Été des Portraits competition (Reportage), and 3rd place at the Canada International Digital Photography Award  (Travel).

In 2013, Gibotta wins FIOF’s Photographer of the Year Award, and is awarded a bronze medal at the China International Photographic Art Exhibition. In the same year, he places 24th at the MyWed contest, with the participation of more than 3000 contestants.

In 2014, Gibotta wins FIOF’s Wedding Photographer of The Year Award, and, in 2015, he is the absolute winner of the 2015 FIOF Italy International Photography Awards. The same year, the most important producer of fine photographic paper, Hahnemühle, uses one of Gibotta’s works from the “Holi Festival” series to advertise its new Matt Fibre 200 paper. Another photo of the same series is included in The National Geographic Society’s volume Stunning Photographs.

In 2016, Gibotta places 3rd at the prestigious POY - Picture of the Year International (Feature Picture Story) with “Controluce”, and takes 1st place in the Reportage category, and 2nd place in the History category at the FIPA - Italy International Photography Awards. The same year, his work is featured at the 5th LUMIX Festival for Young Photojournalism, in Germany, and places second at the World Press Photo (People).

A Jurors’ Pick at the 2017 Magnum Photography Awards, Gibotta is a winner at the prestigious PDN Photo Annual (Personal Work), and places second at the SIPA-Siena International Photo Awards (Story-telling), with the work “Els Enfarinat”. The same work places second at the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards (Discovery). In 2018, Gibotta is among the five finalists at the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography with “Stuck in the Cold of Belgrade”.
