The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington D.C. have the pleasure to invite you to a conference on Andrea del Verrocchio’s extraordinary artistry, organized on the occasion of 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death.
The symposium precedes the inauguration of the exhibition Verrocchio: Sculptor and Painter of Renaissance Florence at the National Gallery of Art (NGA) and will engage experts from the NGA, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Friends of Florence in a conversation on the versatile artist.
Andrea del Verrocchio (c. 1435–1488) was one of the most vibrant and important artists in Renaissance Florence. Painters like Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Perugino and Leonardo da Vinci assisted him. The conference will examine the wealth and breadth of Verrocchio’s artistry, which include masterpieces in painting, sculpture, and drawing. In each medium, Verrocchio had a profound impact on his peers and other artists that came after him.
