Massimo Sargolini

Full Professor of Urban Planning at the School of Architecture and Design, UNICAM-University of Camerino (IT).

His main research areas include: Relationship between Urban Landscape and Quality of Life (2010-present); Ecological Networks as Structural Components of Planning (2003-2009); Heritage Areas and their Correlation with the Local Planning and Socioeconomic Programming (1996-2002); Planning of Parks and their Relation with the Region (1990-1995).

Coordinator of several park plans, he has been the scientific coordinator of a number of international projects. Among them the recent : LinkPas-Linking Networks of Protected Areas to Territorial Development (2017-2018) developed within ESPON-European Spatial Planning Observation Network; SUN LIFE Umbria (2014-2017) funded by European LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Programme.

President of the Joint Commission for the School of Architecture and Design of UNICAM (2014-present). Referee for the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems. Member of the supervisory committee of the Marche Region Rural Development Program 2014-2020. Since 2016, member of the ‘CTSScientific and Technical Committee of the Extraordinary Commissioner for Post-Earthquake Reconstruction’ at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; member of the joint commission of CTS and Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Tourism for post-2016 earthquake reconstruction; coordinator of the virtual community ‘Inland Areas and Reconstruction’ launched by INU-Italian National Institute of Urban Planning.  He is the author of more than 400 publications on the topics of park planning, landscape, safety and quality of life.

 

Vania Virgili

Senior scientific officer at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) where she is involved in the Cultural Heritage Network, the INFN initiative related to the diagnostics and material characterization of cultural heritage through the development and application of innovative chemical-physical techniques and methods. Since 2014, she has been advisor to the Italian Minister for Culture and Tourism. She graduated from Sapienza University of Rome with an M.A. (2007) in Sciences for Cultural Heritage and obtained there her Ph.D. (2011) in Chemical Sciences with a specialization in the material characterization of cultural heritage. From 2007 to 2012, she designed and managed European projects on R&D for cultural heritage and the technology transfer in the field. From 2012 to 2016, she focused her activities to planning and implementing European research infrastructures for social and cultural innovation, contributing to the establishment of the European Research Infrastructure on Heritage Science. Since 2016, she has served as Italian Representative in the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020), ‘Societal Challenge 6: Europe in a changing world: inclusive, innovative and reflective societies’ committee. Her education and her professional activities are cross-sectorial and include cultural heritage, disaster risk reduction, social and cultural innovation, science and public policies. Her most recent publications are related the Social Sciences and Humanities sector and include influential position papers and articles in national newspapers.
