La Tenerezza is scaled down to an intimate level, taking on public issues and using them as the backdrop to a story of two families and the dysfunction within them. Venerable star Renato Carpentieri plays Lorenzo, an elderly lawyer of dubious ethics. Alienated from his children, he finds himself drawn to some new neighbors. Michela and her husband, Fabio, head a family that appears happier and more unified than Lorenzo's own, but a different picture emerges as he gets close to them. The film is set in Naples, a city rich in heritage but facing new challenges. Ace cinematographer Luca Bigazzi and composer Franco Piersanti pay tribute to the storied locale: the fading splendor of the city is made rich for our eyes, and the score complements this sad beauty. Filmfest DC is back for its 32nd year in Washington, DC, bringing new and exciting international films to the community. Filmfest DC hosts 80 films from 45 countries to show across 11 days for 1 exciting festival.
This year’s films span a variety of categories, including World View (international), Trust No One (thrillers), Global Rhythms (music and dance), Justice Matters (social justice), Shorts (international, DC area and women-produced) and a new section they year, Cine Latino, featuring films from Chile, Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Argentina, Paraguay and more. Directors and filmmakers from many of these features will be present throughout the festival for questions and discussions.
