Alessandro Marianantoni, Director of Mediars and M Accelerator, will illustrate Dante's influence in cinema and television through some intriguing collages of images, videos and music, in conversation with Massimo Ciavolella, Distinguished Professor of Italian Studies, UCLA Department of European Languages โ€‹โ€‹and Transcultural Studies and former director of the UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

The initiative is part of original Dante on Film series, dedicated to the figure and work of the Supreme Poet in cinema and organized in coordination with the Italian Embassy in Washington DC and under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles. It is also part the celebrations for the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States and of "DANTE 700 nel Mondo", the program promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri with 500 projects in over 100 locations around the world, that was launched on the occasion of DanteDì (March 25), and will continue until the 21st Week of the Italian Language in the World (October 18-24 - theme Dante, l'italiano.)

This program is presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, in coordination with the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC, and in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institutes in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC.

 

MASSIMO CIAVOLELLA, PhD, taught Italian literature at Carleton University and the University of Toronto, in Canada, before moving to Los Angeles in his position as Frank D. Murphy Chair in Italian Renaissance Studies and Distinguished Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature in the Department of European Languages and Transcultural Studies (ELTS) at UCLA

ALESSANDRO MARIANANTONI works on cultural, entertainment, environmental and social fields with emphasis on technology. He has produced several interactive installations exhibited between the USA and Europe, for public and private organizations including UCLA, Google, Siemens, Marriott, Universal Studios, Disney, Amazon, and the City of Pasadena. He earned a degree in Computer Science at the University of L’Aquila, with a thesis on perceptual interfaces at the USC Institute for Creative Technology and Integrate Media System Center. He started MEDIARS, an experimental center focused on Cultural Heritage and Technology and currently, he is Executive Director and Founder at M Accelerator, offering programs to serve the Los Angeles and International Startup ecosystems providing students, early stage and later stage founders with skills to grow their startups.
