Maverick Modigliani by Valeria Parisi – Screening and Conversation

Maverick Modigliani by Valeria Parisi – Screening and Conversation

On the occasion of the centenary of the death of Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), our Cinema Italiano: A Better Way to Stay Home is proud to present a special preview of Maverick Modigliani, a documentary featuring the story of a remarkable talent who transcended all stereotypes.

From Modigliani’s origins in Livorno (Italy) to the Paris of Picasso and Brancusi - the new center of modernity - to the love for his wife, Jeanne Hébuterne, who was often the subject of his portraits, the documentary depicts the life and work of an avant-garde artist who ultimately became a contemporary classic.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Margaret Parsons, Head of Film Programs at the National Gallery of Art, Valeria Parisi, Director of Maverick Modigliani and Screenwriter Arianna Marelli. With twelve paintings, one sculpture, and one drawing, the National Gallery of Art in Washington houses one of the world’s great collections of the art of Amadeo Modigliani
