Material vs Material: exploring avant-garde jewelry with designer Lucia Odescalchi

Join us for an evening of luminous elegance as we explore the art of Italian fine jeweler Lucia Odescalchi. In conversation with Ilene Gutman, Deputy Director at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Lucia will let us enter her unique workshop, where the much sought-after pieces come to life before they can be appreciated all over the world.

Avant-garde in spirit, conceptual in shape, Lucia’s experimental creations are fearless in combining what is precious with high-tech materials. Gold, platinum, silver and precious stones are mixed and matched with silicone, resins and carbon fiber to craft her unique designs.

Enriched by a sample exhibit of Lucia’s latest creations, the discussion will focus on the meaning of designing jewelry for this day and age. By adding new materials and using new technologies that link past and future, we discover the secret on how to make fashionable objects that possess timeless beauty.

LUCIA ODESCALCHI

odescalchi

Lucia Odescalchi is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Located in the center of Rome in the 17th-century Palazzo Odescalchi, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, belonging to her family, Lucia creates an exclusive jewelry brand handcrafting all pieces on her own.

Created with rare and antique techniques, they reveal extraordinary craftsmanship combined with an elegant original choice of materials. The designs have an incomparable striking style and display a dramatically sophisticated understatement for a contemporary jewelry line.

Lucia’s pieces are created in a mix of different and unexpected elements. She chooses subdued metals like steel, matte gold and oxidized silver combined with muted gems. Also, brown diamonds and rough-cut rock crystal together with bolder more important stones including colored diamonds, amethysts, and emeralds are used in her work.

All Lucia Odescalchi jewelry pieces are either unique, or made in limited or custom editions for her loyal Italian and international clientele. Her collection can be found in the headquarters in Rome and in a few selected spots around the world.
