Sound Scene XII: AMPLIFY, organized by sound collective DC Listening Lounge, unites local audio artists with national and international creators to transform the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden into an interactive sonic wonderland.
This year Sound Scene will “AMPLIFY” invisible forces, previously silenced voices, and unexpected music through stories, sound art, live performances, and interactive exhibits. Sound Scene XII: AMPLIFY will expand your audio expectations in ways you haven’t yet imagined.
Joining from Italy will be the artistic duo SANDFORD&GOSTI presenting their installation Suspended Rocks at the Hirschhorn’s Plaza. Suspended Rocks is an expression of the need for balance and contrast, structure and tension, harmony and inclusivity. It illustrates the simultaneous existence of manmade and natural objects, reflecting on the concept of “sustainability” – the fragile transparent ecosystem that sustains the weight and solidity of human impact – and of contrasting identities that work together to create a single world. Sound emerges during the installation of the rocks and jars and accompanies the performance with an auditory sense of tension, creating a paradoxical perceptive metaphor. Once the performance is complete, the participants are asked to rearrange the rocks until the order has collectively reached a satisfactory harmony and aesthetic balance.

ABOUT SANFORD&GOSTI
SANDFORD&GOSTI have merged their work for single artistic events. Having worked side by side since 1976, they decided to present their work under a single signature in 2000. The works are produced by both artists who find in each other motivation and stimulus, inventive and dialogue from the first phases of ideation and realization. SANDFORD&GOSTI enact their project titled ACTIONS PER in/FINITE FORMS, carry forward the idea of RECURRENT FLUCTUATION OF EVENTS (WAVES OF re/ACTION), and the periodicity of actions hypothesis. Their artistic media include installation, performance, video and digital photography. They have held artistic events in Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Cyprus, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Spain, USA. Some of their visual works are in museums and private collections, and are also visible at sandfordgosti.com .
