"Passages" by Massimiliano Gatti

Date:

02/04/2016

The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Passages" by Massimiliano Gatti with introductions by Prof. Jonathan Green, curator, Professor Emeritus and Founding Executive Director of ARTSblock, University of California, Riverside and Dr. Alexander Nagel, archaeologist, Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History.

Massimiliano Gatti's photographs explore the history of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East not by reportage, but by a careful, poetic, archeological description that transforms artifacts into metaphor and ancient objects into contemporary commentary. The photographs of this exhibit are quiet meditations on violent transformations, and they are part of three Middle East Projects: In Superfice (On the Surface), Ruins and Tell Gomel and Jerwan.

This event marks the opening of the "Protecting Our Heritage" program of the European Union National Institute of Culture (EUNIC), and it is made possible with the support of the European Delegation to the USA and UNESCO.

The exhibit will remain on display at the Embassy until March 15, 2016. To view please request an appointment at iicwashington@esteri.it between Monday and Friday, 9:30AM to 4:30PM.
